Barcelona hihetetlen hely.

A mogyoróropogós a müzli tetején! A friss gyümölcsök! Na és a kávé, amit Miguel Lamora Bárcena világhíres latte artist csinál… Ezért mindenképp érdemes elzarándokolni a Les Corts negyedbe.

Életem legjobb salátáját tették ugyanis elém a Brunch & Cake by the Sea nevű helyen, ami a kávétrenddel párhuzamos egészséges ételeket kínáló éttermek megjelenésének egyik nagy ajándéka.

Szintén a Barceloneta negyedben ettünk néhány kisebb fogást a La Fresca nevű helyen, ahol talán a legjobb fej pincér, és mindenképpen a legtöbb német turista foglalt helyet.

Barcelona is an incredible place. It makes you fall in love no matter if you are into architecture, music, beaches, food, or metro trains. The city has a lot to offer even if you visit only for a few days, but I have to admit that I would move there anytime.

Should you be interested in Gaudí or the paella, it is easy to get some info prior to your travel online. This is what we did before our 4-day trip, and after some massive googleing we ended up with about 40 stars on the Barcelona section of Google Maps (which by the way seems to be the best app for getting directions while travelling: you can save your starred places that pop up if you are near them, and you can save sections of the map for offline use, so there is no need to have any roaming services to find where you are abroad).

Curiously our Airbnb was quite near to one of Barcelona’s best bakeries (this is district Sants, easily accessible from the airport), so breakfasts were a no-brainer. And Forn Baltá is an institution indeed with incredible baked goods, pizzas with spinach or padrón and Spanish ladies chatting at the tables.

Another great place offering a special breakfast menu as well is the Casa Lolea near Urguinaona metro station. Although the waiters seemed a bit tired, their toast with fresh cheese, honey, walnuts and grapes was over the top.

Yet you can get the best breakfast in Barcelona at the Atmans Coffee. I never would have thought that a simple avocado toast and a bowl of granola could blow my mind to such extent, but the bread, the fresh fruits and the crunchy nut topping was just incredible. And the coffee! It’s made by Miguel Lamora Bárcena, the world-famous latte artist, so you definitely should pay a visit to the Les Corts district.

Atmans is actually located in the same building as COOCCIÓ, Barcelona’s newest and coolest food business. It’s a shared kitchen open offering a cooking space for rent for professional or amateur cooks, providing inspirational environment for recipe development and pop-up events alike. It was the great folks of Mardegusto offering mini beetroot burgers with magic flowers when we visited the place – do follow their work if you are in Barcelona!

Just like Budapest, Barcelona also jumped on the quality coffee bandwagon during recent years. Apart from Atmans we visited Nømad and Satan’s Coffee Corner: both are offering amazing coffee, great and hip atmosphere, and infinite information on cooking methods, countries of origins and all things coffee.

I was really looking forward to finally eat some authentic tapas, somehow other meals had bigger impressions on me during this trip. For example, the I was served the best salad of my life at Brunch & Cake by the Sea, one of the new healthy places of Barcelona (a trend similarly growing in the city). Although you must pay 10% extra for sitting outside, the food is just amazing, and my legendary salad included strawberries, mango, sweet potato, rocket, baby spinach, chicken breast bites, tasty guacamole, tortilla chips and a mustard dressing.

Crazy combo, although at this point it was hard to breath already, as we visited this place not long after queuing for 20 minutes in front of Bo de B for an otherwise great vegetable sandwich (with feta, lentils, tomato, olives, salad and garlic sauce).

Also at the Barceloneta district we ate some small bites at the place called La Fresca. This one had probably the coolest waiter and most definitely the highest number of German tourists… (While we tried to focus on eating at authentic places, we found that most restaurants in Barcelona are above average. And in July tourists may well outnumber locals in the city centre, so eventually we just kicked back and didn’t care about the infinite number of fellow travellers everywhere.)

Regardless of being touristy, we find the best vibes at El Xampanyet in the El Gotic district. Offering great food and drinks, we stepped out of this place at 2 pm as if just waking up from a real crazy dream.

As I mentioned, it was indeed a bit difficult to breath after certain meals, but it was nothing compared to the experience in chök, the chocolate kitchen. Doughnuts made of croissant pastry, hand-made chocolates and incredible cakes all around, making you feel dizzy and as a child.

And for the churros, look for the experts: Xurreria Banys Nous is offering the most heavenly Spanish treat for more than 48 years.

As a foodie in Barcelona we had to visit the legendary market of La Boqueria. Although I don’t think many locals do their shopping here, there is a small place right next to the stalls, El Xiringuito, worth a visit for a nice glass of sangria and a seafood paella.

Yet it might be a better choice to look at other markets in Barcelona, such as the Sant Antoni Market, Mercat d’Hostafrancs, Mercat de Sants, or Mercat de Santa Caterina. And it seems as if specialised food stores for fish, cheese or other dried goods are right next door to the most famous sights, so it might actually be reasonable to try and cook something in that Airbnb you’re at.

Beside all this eating we didn’t have much time for the sightseeing, but here are three of my absolute favourite things we managed to visit:
